“Passing on Cultural Heritage of the Mediterranean Diet”

The Grand Auditorium of the University of Algarve receives the International Conference "Passing on Cultural Heritage of the Mediterranean Diet" which will be held on 9th and 10th May, 2017.

This International Conference takes place during the Portuguese presidency/coordination of the 7 representative States and Communities of Mediterranean diet as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO, and intends to analyze the strategies and experiences of research, safeguarding and passing-on of the Mediterranean Diet (MD) universal values to the present and future generations.

The Conference will focus on the on-going work experiences in the 7 Representative States and Communities, particularly in the context of good practices included in the Safeguard Plan. Positioning itself in an open perspective to the various fields of knowledge, allowing a comprehensive view of the Mediterranean diet both as a cultural model and lifestyle, as a food standard of excellence and a sustainable diet.

It is aimed at the active participation of university professors and researchers, educators and teachers of various levels of education, specialists in the fields of culture and food heritage, agriculture and the environment, health and nutrition, planning for the sustainability of territories and communities, and other areas of knowledge, as well as managers and promoters of projects, entrepreneurs, students and citizens interested in these issues.

Organized by the Universidade do Algarve, in collaboration with the Ministério da Agricultura, Florestas e Desenvolvimento Rural and the Câmara Municipal de Tavira, as part of an application for CRESC Algarve 2020, this Conference also has the support of the  Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Algarve, the Direção Regional de Cultura do Algarve, the Direção Regional de Agricultura e Pescas do Algarve, the Região de Turismo do Algarve and the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Faro.
