Biomedicine Research Centre
The mission of the Biomedicine Research Centre (CBMR) at the University of Algarve is to improve our understanding and treatment of human diseases, as well as maintaining health. The CBMR has earned a reputation as a benchmark research centre in southern of Portugal and is one of the founding members of the Academic Centre for Biomedical Research and Training in the Algarve (ABC), a consortium focused on both the CMBR’s research activities and on the activities of the University of Algarve Hospital Centre (CHUA), which works locally to improve health through teaching and research. The CBMR offers a range of state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and equipment for innovative biomedical research, with dedicated technicians and support services, including a fully equipped microscopy unit, a flow cytometry unit and a vivarium that fully complies with the animal health and welfare legislation in force.
The CBMR has been very productive regarding high impact articles, project applications and involvement in national and international contact networks. We are also committed to providing a teaching and learning experience aimed at research for students of medicine and biomedical sciences. The CBMR's strategy is to transform society through a science of excellence, closely aligned and integrated into the University of Algarve’s research, cooperation and internationalisation strategy.
