The CEOT is a research centre based at the University of Algarve that was created in 2003 as a result of a collaborative effort by several young scientists in the areas of electronics, optoelectronics and telecommunications.

Today, the CEOT is composed of a multidisciplinary mix of researchers in the fields of informatics, computer science, electronics, physics and biology, following a research strategy focused on an integrated approach to networks, electronics and sensing applications in biology.

Research activities include networked communications, with a strong emphasis on the Internet of Things (IoT), and detection for agronomic applications, with a strong emphasis on optical and electrical measurements.
