He was born in Portimão, Portugal. He holds a first degree in Economics (Universidade Nova de Lisboa), a MSc degree in Business Studies (Universidade Técnica de Lisboa) and a Ph.D. in Business Studies with major in Marketing (ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa).
Since 2010, he is Coordinator Professor at the Escola Superior de Gestão, Hotelaria e Turismo (ESGHT) of the Universidade do Algarve (UAlg). He began his teaching activity in 1986 as a lecturer at the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão of Instituto Politécnico de Faro.
In 1989 he held his first academic management position, acting as member of the founding committee of ESGHT. Since then he has held various managerial positions in this school, such as school director (2009-2012), President of the Scientific Council (1997/98 and 2007/09 ), President of the Pedagogical Council (2013 ), Director of the Hospitality and Tourism department (1990-1992), Vice-director of school (1992-1995), Director of the Marketing undergraduate program (since 2013).
In 2010, he was also appointed Pro-rector of UAlg and has been a member of several academic bodies, both at school and UAlg level.
Between 2002 and 2004 he was Head of the Studies Group at the Algarve branch of the Instituto Nacional de Estatística and he was a board member of a hotel between 1991 and 1993.
He has more than 40 publications and has both coordinated and/or participated in more than 10 projects, mainly centered in Tourism Marketing.
