This course aims to prepare applicants for the examination of the specific component of Mathematics for Access to Higher Education for those aged 23 and over seeking entry to the degrees in Food Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the Institute of Engineering; in Computer Engineering, Marine and Coastal Management at the Faculty of Science and Technology; and in Economics and Business Management at the Faculty of Economics.

It also allows entry to Higher Professional Technical Courses in Civil Construction; Digital Design and Modelling; Electrical Installations, Home Automation and Automation; Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Buildings and Infrastructures; Device Programming for the Internet; Food Safety and Hygiene; Information Systems and Technologies and Automotive Technologies and Maintenance.

The preparatory course for the specific component of Mathematics is taught by the Instituto Superior de Engenharia (Institute of Engineering - ISE).

Conditions of admission

• Applicants will be admitted in order of registration.
• Preference will be given to applicants who have enrolled for the aptitude test for entry to the University of Algarve for ages 23 and over.

The minimum number of students required for the course to operate is eight.

These documents can be handed in to the ISE secretariat, e-mailed to ise@ualg.pt or sent by post.

Tuition fees

The tuition fees for the course are 180 euros.

Upon registration, a down payment of 50 euros must be made, which will be discounted from the total tuition fees to be paid. The outstanding tuition fees must be paid no later than the payment deadline of 3 February.

Registration takes place from 6-27 January 2021, using an online form.

Course dates

Classes will take place at the ISE (Campus da Penha) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 30 January to 5 May.

The necessary teaching materials are provided.

Certification

In order to pass the course, students must attend at least 75% of the classes and take the preparatory course assessment tests, obtaining a weighted average equal to or greater than 9.5 out of 20.

A certificate will be given to all participants who have attended the course regularly and successfully.

Applicants who have passed the preparatory course may request exemption from taking the test for the specific component of Mathematics, which is the entrance exam required for the aforementioned degrees. In this case, the applicant’s mark will be that obtained for the course.
