On November 3rd, at 6pm, the exhibition You Want It Darker, by Fernando Amaro, opens at Galeria Trem, in Faro. On show until 31 January 2022, the exhibition seeks to reflect on the strange, inhuman and absurd side of the world.

You Want It Darker is the result of a journey of recognition, in the polysemic sense of the term. The exhibition borrows its name from Leonard Cohen's fourteenth studio album, released 17 days before the Canadian singer-songwriter's death. The theme of the album centres on death, darkness and God, with humour mixed in. The present works equally allude to that darkness, to suffering, persecution, injustice, existential doubts and absurdity.

From (re)readings of The Book of Disquiet by Bernardo Soares, The Plague and The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus; and from (re)visits to Beckett, Arrabal, Ionesco, Vian, Buñuel, philosophers like Nietzsche, the artist Fernando Amaro inquires into the world, this increasingly strange and inhuman place. With detours and deviations from the initially planned course, You Want It Darker presents a sea of doubts and ambiguities, of restlessness and startles.

This exhibition, with free admission, is part of the programme of the Visual Arts course of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of the Algarve for the Galeria Trem, with the support of CIAC, FCT and Faro Municipal Council/ Faro Municipal Museum.
