Overview
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a fundamental tool for the visualisation, analysis, understanding and management of data coming from many different sources. Social, economic and environmental indicators, always inseparable from the territory, are now addressed using increasingly powerful software. In the present and in the future, the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the state of a municipality, a region or a country cannot be done without resorting to a GIS tool and, consequently, the need for qualified specialists is constantly increasing. The Master in Geographic Information Systems is aimed at the advanced training of specialists with this professional profile.

Objectives

  • To promote advanced, multi- and interdisciplinary knowledge in subjects related to GIS, Remote Sensing, Drones, and also Earth and Environmental Sciences
  • To train specialists to become competent professionals with the capacity to intervene individually or to participate in teams, with responsibilities both in the use and development of computer tools and applications, and in optimising their application to the territory and the landscape, and to social and economic activities and processes

Operating Mode

Schedule: Monday to Friday, between 6 pm - 9 pm; exceptionally, field classes on Saturdays.

The Course structure ensures that students obtain new skills in areas of knowledge ranging from the use and development of GIS tools, georeferenced databases, spatialized data analysis, remote sensing and the usage of drones as sources of thematic information about the territory. It also provides training on the development of WebSIG applications and, finally, training on the territory, its resources and risks, and its sustainability.
