The University of Algarve offers courses in six thematic areas: Arts, Communication and Heritage; Engineering and Technologies; Exact and Natural Sciences; Science and Health Technologies; Social Sciences and Education; and Economics, Management and Tourism. The studies in these areas include undergraduate and postgraduate (Master and PhD) degrees. All the degrees are recognized in the European Union countries.

Located in the southern most part of Portugal, one of the most touristic regions of Portugal, the University has two university campuses located in Faro. The city is two and a half hours from Libon by car and fifty minutes from Oporto by plane. Faro's International Airpot offers a large number of flights from and to worldwide destinations.
UAlg receives international students from more than 84 nationalities totaling over 19% of its student population. UAlg participates in many international exchange programmes (bilateral, Erasmus plus, Erasmus Mundus) and students have the opportunity to spend periods of learning or practical training in partner institutions abroad.

World university rankings
With 42 years of existence, it appears for the fourth time in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2021, which analyses the performance of higher education institutions created 50 years or less ago, standing out in the indicator that evaluates international projection.
Also the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2021 selected the University of Algarve in six scientific areas: Tourism Management and Hospitality (position 76-100); Oceanography (position 151-200); Ecology (position 301-400); Agricultural Sciences, Earth Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences (positions 401-500).
Committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, in 2020 integrates for the first time the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which assesses the performance and contribution of universities to the SDGs, placing in position 201-300, among 766 Higher Education Institutions from 85 countries that met the inclusion requirements.
