Institutions are constituted by a system of messages and complex significant resources (logos, symbols, typography, colors, complementary graphics, acoustic signs, architecture, internal and external communications, etc.), manifested in each and every part, promoting a certain image.
In addition, the current institutional communication paradigm is based on the information society, the knowledge economy, expansion and internationalization. In this context, graphic brands are fundamental elements in the identification, differentiation and recognition of the institution.
Given the strategic and instrumental importance of these resources, the Visual Identity of the University of Algarve is based on the institution's communication objectives and values: “To affirm the University as an innovative Higher Education institution, committed to the advancement of knowledge and the development of society, favouring projects transversal themes, favouring the strengthening of internationalization and consortium connections, and responding to the needs of current and new audiences, through teaching and research activities. ”
The entire verbal and visual structure (names, typography, logos, symbol and colours) was designed in order to allow correct orientation and application in all communication products. A single graphic language is used, regardless of the different services or structures of the University, conveyed by all communication channels, consolidating its image among its specific audiences, creating greater notoriety and recognition. Any communication or promotion of the brand is supported by these same principles.
The Graphic Standards Manual establishes the basic principles and standards for the use of the University of Algarve brand in its most common applications. Defines and illustrates some applications of the brand and represents the set of its elements (typography, logo. Symbol, color, etc.) in order to guarantee its correct applicability. These principles must be respected by those who use these graphic elements, and their understanding is a starting point for building a strong, integrated and unified image of the institution.
