JazzUAlg

JazzUAlg is a project developed at the University of the Algarve with the aim of practising and learning jazz.

The project came about on the initiative of César Mogo, a researcher at UAlg, and is led by guitarist Miguel Martins, the JazzUAlg trainer in charge. It was formally created by rectorial order on 27 October 2017.

The group's repertoire includes original arrangements of compositions by Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Hermeto Pascoal and Benny Golson, among others.

It concentrates a mixture of styles, providing listeners with extremely rich soundscapes, combined with intense rhythms and allowing a journey through the world of creative freedom and improvisation, so characteristic of the jazz language.

JazzUAlg has become a regular presence at concerts, events and jazz festivals in the region.

Recently, JazzUAlg started as a resident group at the Jams Sessions at the República 14 Cultural Association in Olhão. The concerts take place on Thursdays in the second week of each month, between 19.30 and 22.00.
