Tavira Living Science Center

The Centro Ciência Viva de Tavira is a non-profit association (having as partners the Municipality of Tavira, the University of Algarve and the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture). Member of the National Network of Ciência Viva Centers, promoted by the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture.

Installed since 2005 in the former Chapel of Convento do Carmo, next to one of the most emblematic churches in Tavira, this Ciência Viva Center offers visitors a unique interactive space to promote scientific and technological culture, in an architectural ensemble of great beauty and heritage value.

In addition to an interactive exhibition centered on the theme “Water and Energy”, the Ciência Viva Center in Tavira is also a versatile laboratory space for promoting experimental science activities. It promotes lectures, temporary exhibitions and various ludic-pedagogical activities that arouse scientific curiosity, among the school community and the general public. Taking advantage of the great natural and patrimonial surroundings, it also offers paths of interpretation that integrate cultural, environmental and scientific values.

The Ciência Viva Center in Tavira also assumes a role in stimulating the debate with the local community, around issues of public impact related to science and technology, promoting Tavira as a city of scientific culture.

It is also a space where the occupation of young people on vacations and birthday parties are centered on scientific themes and where scientific toys can be easily acquired.
