European University of the Seas

Living sustainably, by, from and with the sea

European University of the Sea (SEA-EU) Alliance was initiated in 2019 with the participation of 6 European universities. By 2022, 3 additional universities, including the University of Algarve, became part of the alliance.

Nine universities have come together to form the SEA-EU alliance are:

SEA-EU Alliance navigating towards modern and co-transformative inter-campus life, people driven, planet-friendly and knowledge-based progress for all.

The Alliance stands as a pioneer in the European Universities Initiative and is dedicated to achieving ambitious goals, including securing the European Degree Label for collaborative programs, establishing legal status, and reaching the target of a 50% increase in academic mobilities.

The SEA-EU 2.0 project has the general goal of consolidating the strategic aggregation of the Higher Education Institutions that compose it, building a true European University with the creation of a university multi-campus with a new recognized legal status.

The most ambitious goal of SEA-EU is to intensify physical, virtual or hybrid mobilities, in order to allow faculties, researchers, students and staff to carry out part of their academic path, training and networking activities, including internships and Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs), in the 9 European universities or in their associated partners, research centers, companies, and public institutions.

Opportunities for Students

Internships constitute a key learning moment for you, as Master students, between studies and professional life, where curiosity, critical thinking and transversality are sharpened. In order to facilitate international mobility between SEA-EU universities, we’ve been identifying topics in all disciplines with motivated researchers willing to welcome Master Interns in their lab for a Master Research project in 2023-24. See full list below.

Please get in touch directly with researchers (contact details are in each topic description), sending them your CV, a letter of motivation and an academic transcript.

There are more than 100 opportunities currently available for the academic year 2023-24 within SEA-EU.

Opportunities for Staff

The staff week program of SEA-EU is a brief exchange program where staff from SEA-EU universities come together for several days. The main objectives include collaborative work on common professional themes, sharing best practices, and providing training opportunities. Open to all university staff, whether in teaching or administrative roles, the exchanges should be linked to the participant's professional development and focus on lifelong learning.

UAlg, as part of the SEA-EU alliance, actively organizes these short mobility programs. The goal is to encourage meetings and collaboration with European partner universities. Each of the 9 alliance universities aims to host two Staff Weeks annually, offering around twenty opportunities for staff to connect with or host colleagues from other European institutions.

Study Day “ExiGE: (re)creations in postborder

This symposium organized by the HCTI laboratory aligns with the goals of the 2022-2026 five-year plan under the program “Exiles and Migrations: History, Memory, Representations.” It follows the IInd interdoctoral day of ExiGE held in Brest on June 22, 2022, (Doctoral School in Arts, Litteratures and Languages UBO and Doctoral Programm in Arts and Humanities UCA, Cádiz), which included a doctoral roundtable on gender studies.

It also connects with the ExiGE study day on June 5, 2023, which expanded the discourse by strengthening the HCTI laboratory’s presence in the Interuniversity Master’s Program in Gender Studies.

This integration involved students from this program interacting with doctoral schools in the humanities at the Universities of Western Brittany and Cádiz—Cádiz being one of the first European universities to offer a master’s in gender studies and a leading university in the SEA-EU alliance, European Universities of the Sea.
