Overview
The Bachelor’s degree in Management provides comprehensive, practical and relevant training, equipping students with the skills needed to work effectively in diverse organisations across the public, private and social sectors. Building on a solid foundation in the core areas of Management and related disciplines, the programme develops both technical and transferable skills, enabling students to analyse problems, make informed decisions and create value within organisations. The programme’s links with the business community, strengthened by the Placement curricular unit included in the curriculum, enable students to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, support their integration into the labour market and prepare them for future academic and professional challenges.

Objectives

  • To train professionals capable of understanding, analysing and operating in diverse management contexts, within public and private sector organisations, both for-profit and non-profit;
  • To provide students with a solid academic foundation in the main areas of Management, including Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Strategic Management, Accounting and Taxation, and Marketing, supported by complementary disciplines such as Economics, Information Systems, Quantitative Methods, Law, Languages and Communication;
  • To provide students with scientific and technical tools that support decision-making processes and the assessment of organisational performance;
  • To develop soft skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, innovation and entrepreneurship;
  • To prepare students for further studies in second- and third-cycle programmes, enabling specialisation in different areas of Management;
  • To develop students’ technical competencies in the key areas required for professional practice in the field of Certified Accountancy, in accordance with the standards established by the Portuguese Order of Certified Accountants (Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados);
  • To facilitate students’ integration into the labour market through the Placement.

The programme is distinguished by its strong connection with the business community, reflected in the inclusion of the Placement curricular unit in the curriculum. This experience represents a central component of the programme, enabling students to engage directly with real organisational contexts, apply theoretical knowledge in professional settings, and develop competencies highly valued by employers.

In parallel, students may undertake extracurricular work placements from the early stages of the programme, with a minimum duration of four weeks. These opportunities broaden students’ exposure to different sectors of activity and organisational contexts, contributing to a more informed definition of their professional pathways. Such experiences are formally recognised in students’ academic records and included in their certificates as extracurricular units.

In addition to this core component, the programme also benefits from a close relationship with the business community, reflected in initiatives such as need-based and merit-based scholarships funded by several companies that recognise academic achievement and promote excellence.

Overall, the programme offers a rigorous, up-to-date and practice-oriented education, preparing graduates to operate with autonomy, critical thinking and strategic vision in demanding and constantly evolving organisational contexts.

The applications for public higher education are made annually through national call and/or special contests.
