Contingency plan
The new Coronavirus, 2019-nCoV, later designated by the Coronavirus Study Group as SARS-CoV-2, (COVID-19), was initially detected in China and spread to other countries on several continents, including Europe, leading to the World Health Organization declaring the existence of an epidemic, which could evolve into a pandemic.
As there is a risk to public health and the University of the Algarve is responsible for ensuring the academic community’s safety and health on a continuous and permanent basis, the University defined and approved the Contingency Plan of the University of Algarve for the Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19, taking into account the general principles of prevention. Referred to in abbreviated form as “Contingency Plan”, its aim is to respond to an epidemic scenario, in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the guidelines of the Directorate-General for Health.
Through the implementation of the Contingency Plan, efforts will be made to minimise the impact of the epidemic at the University of Algarve, in conjunction with health entities, adopting preventive measures and control procedures appropriate to the level of risk in force in the country and promoting the dissemination of information to the academic community.
Following the evolutionary process of the epidemic, the present plan will be revised and updated whenever justified, according to the guidelines of the Directorate-General for Health, with a new number assigned to each version and the changes highlighted.
