Tourism Organisations Management
Objectives
- Transmit the most up-to-date knowledge and best practices on management and development of tourism organizations, by building up on the knowledge acquired at undergraduate level
- Integrate the results of both empirical research and provision of services to the community, enhancing diverse skills
- Stimulate innovation and creative forms of management
- Develop students‘ capability to analyse complex situations and to find integrated solutions to problems
- Train professionals and researchers to the appropriate level so that they can articulate the process of tourism management with territorial and socio-cultural planning and development of tourism destinations
Curriculum Overview
The Master in Tourism Organizations Management lasts for 2 years and comprises a total of 120 ECTS. The courses, all taught in English, are offered during the first year and cover 60 ECTS. Classes start in October and finish in July. The Master's Final Work takes place during the second year and has 60 ECTS. Assistant Professor. PhD holder in Management and MA holder in Economic and Management Sciences, his main research interests are tourism destinations management and governance, tourism innovation and development of products. He has published both in national and international journals. In the Faculty, he is also a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Program in Tourism.
Alexandra Gonçalves (marodrig@ualg.pt)
Alexandra Gonçalves was the Regional Director of Culture of the Algarve, and councilor of the Municipality of Faro – areas of Culture, Social Action, Health, Advertising, Economy and Tourism, from 2009 to 2013. PhD in Tourism by the University of Évora and Master in Management and Administration of Cultural Heritage, by the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of University of Algarve and University of Paris-8, she is currently the Head Director of the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism from the University of Algarve. She has several articles and research published in tourism, cultural heritage and events. She collaborates in several research projects in these areas, highlighting the CREATOUR project, where she is the lead researcher for the regional team of the University of Algarve.

António Matias is a PhD holder in Economics and a MA holder in Economic and Management Sciences. He is an Assistant Professor. He was Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and presently he is the Director of the Bachelor Course in Economics at the University of Algarve. His main research interests are environmental and resource economics and tourism economics.

Member of the Centre for Advanced Studies and Training in Management and Economics. He is also the Director of the Master Course in Economics of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Program in Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management. He holds an MSc in Management and Strategy by ISCTE Business School of the Lisbon Institute and a PhD in Strategic Management by the Business School of the Sheffield Hallam University. His main research interests are business strategy and quality management, and he has published both in national and international journals.
Célia M. Q. Ramos (cmramos@ualg.pt)
Célia Ramos graduated in Computer Engineering from the University of Coimbra, obtained her Master in Electrical and Computers Engineering from the Higher Technical Institute, Lisbon University, and the PhD in Econometrics in the University of the Algarve (UALG), Faculty of Economics, Portugal. She is Adjunct Professor at School for Management, Hospitality and Tourism, also in the UALG, where she lectures computer science. Areas of research and special interest include conception and development of information systems, tourism information systems, big data, e-tourism, econometric modeling and panel-data models. She is member of CinTurs.

Dora Agapito holds a PhD in Tourism, an MA in Marketing and a BSc in Communication Sciences. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Algarve (Faculty of Economics) and integrated researcher at the Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being (Cinturs), Portugal. Previously, she was a Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Events Management at the University of Lincoln, UK. Her research focuses on responsible tourism management, sensory-informed tourist experiences, experience design, destination management, sustainable tourism experiences, consumer psychology and social marketing.

Efigénio Rebelo is Full Professor of Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management. PhD holder in Economics, specialized in Econometrics, he also holds both an MA in Econometrics from the School of Economics of the University of Manchester and an MSc in Mathematics Applied to Economics and Management from the Technical University of Lisbon. He has been a member of the Research Centre on Spatial and Organizational Dynamics and his publications in international journals are mainly in the field of quantitative methods. Previously, he was a member of the Council of the University of Algarve and Dean of the Faculty of Economics. Nowadays he is the President of the Scientific Committee and the Director of the PhD Program in Economic and Management Sciences.

João Silva is Full Professor of Economics and a member of the Research Centre on Spatial and Organizational Dynamics. He holds both a PhD and a MA in Economics from the Technical University of Lisbon. He is the Chair of the Economics Scientific Area and the Director of the PhD Program in Tourism. He is also the President of the National Commission for the Assessment of University Tourism Programs. His current research interests include economics of tourism, regional development and tourism destinations, sustainability and governance in tourism.

PhD holder in Management, specializing in strategy and organizational behaviour, and a MA holder in Economic and Management Sciences. Assistant Professor and a member of the Research Centre on Spatial and Organizational Dynamics, he is also a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Program in Tourism. His current research interests include excellence and integrated quality management in tourism destinations, tourism experience, events management, tourism destinations image, and branding and customer satisfaction. He has published both in national and international journals.

Manuela Guerreiro is an Assistant Professor at University of Algarve (Portugal). PhD in Economic and Management Sciences, Msc in Cultural Management, and graduated in Communication Sciences. Director of the Master in Marketing Management. Co-coordinator of the Research Centre CinTurs. Research interests: Marketing and tourism, especially in brand management and place branding, consumer behaviour, e-Marketing and social media, tourism experiences, arts, and events Marketing. Researcher at CinTurs.
Patrícia Pinto (pvalle@ualg.pt)
Patrícia Pinto is a PhD holder in Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management, specialized in Statistics, and an Associate Aggregated Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve. She is also the Vice-president of the Research Centre on Spatial and Organizational Dynamics, a member of the coordinating body of the PhD program in Tourism and the Chair of the Quantitative Methods Scientific Area. Her current research interests include applied statistics and modeling in the areas of integrated quality management in tourism destinations, events management, tourism destinations image, branding, marketing strategies, customer satisfaction, and environmental behavior.
Pedro Pintassilgo (ppintas@ualg.pt)
PhD holder in Natural Resource Economics from the New University of Lisbon and an Assistant Aggregated Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve. He is the Director of the Master Course in Tourism Economics and Regional Development and a member of the Research Centre on Spatial and Organizational Dynamics. He has published in influential journals in the fields of environmental economics and tourism economics. He belongs to the Master´s Directive Board.

Ana Cláudia Campos (ana.campos@universidadeeuropeia.pt)
Ana Cláudia Campos holds a PhD in Tourism, a MA in Tourism Management, and a BA in Philosophy. Currently she is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality, European University of Lisbon, Portugal. Her research interests are in tourism marketing, tourism experience, tourist psychology and co-creation. She is a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics (CIEO), University of Algarve. Ana has published several articles and book chapters with fellow authors J. Mendes, P. Valle and N. Scott, such as Co-creation of tourist experiences: A literature review in Current Issues in Tourism (2018) and Co-creating animal-based tourist experiences: attention, involvement and memorability in Tourism Management (2017).

Note: The tuition of this course can be paid in 10 installments, being the first at the time of registration and the remaining in the months of October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May and June.

The Program prepares its graduates to work on the various positions within tourism organizations such as hotels, golf courses, destination management companies, international and national tourism boards, municipalities and regional tourism departments.
