Overview

The Master’s Degree in Health Technology Management and Assessment is jointly offered by the School of Health of the University of Algarve and the Lisbon School of Health, of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. This programme was established to address a critical need within the healthcare sector: to train professionals in management, quality and safety, and health technology assessment. These three key areas form the foundation of the programme, through which students, via an interactive and collaborative approach, will acquire new knowledge and consolidate practices under the guidance of an experienced and innovative academic staff.

 

Objectives

This Master’s programme aims to equip candidates with professional competencies that enable them to:

Promote efficiency and optimization in the management of healthcare resources
Understand and apply a range of techniques and procedures in management, health technology assessment, auditing, and the analysis of evidence-based practices
Acquire and apply decision-support tools related to the selection of devices and procedures, integrating the perspectives of users, institutions, and society
Identify VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) organizational contexts and explore sustainable, safe, and agile responses, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and sustainable healthcare
Enhance knowledge and foster innovation in complex situations, thereby contributing to the sustainability of the healthcare system and improving the quality and safety of care provision
Develop critical thinking, divergent and analytical reasoning, as well as communication, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills within the healthcare context

 

Operating Mode

Start of academic activities for the 2026/27 school year from September 8, 2026.

Classes will generally take place on Fridays from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Classes will be delivered from each of the partner institutions, using a videoconferencing system.

Up to 30% of theoretical classes may be taught remotely (online).

Tuition and Fees 2026/2027

National Students: 1900 Euros

International Students*: 6100 Euros

Application Fee: 50 Euros

Registration Fee and School Insurance: 175 Euros

Note: The tuition of this course can be paid in 10 installments, being the first at the time of registration and the remaining in the months of October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May and June.

* in accordance with Decree-Law No. 36/2014, changed by Decree-Law No.62/2018, of 6th August, international students are nationals of a country which is not a Member State of the European Union and are not a legally resident in Portugal for more than 2 uninterrupted years by 1st of January of the enrolment year
