Conditions of access

Candidate’s conditions for admission
a) Holders of a 1st cycle of studies degree or legal equivalent in the areas of Language Sciences, Linguistics, Languages and Literatures or Letters, Communication Sciences, Human Sciences or Social Sciences (provided they have proven training in the area of Language Sciences).
b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree, awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organised in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a state adhering to this process;
c) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognised as satisfying the objectives of a bachelor's degree by the Scientific Council of the Faculty or Technical-Scientific Council of the Higher Scholl of the University of the Algarve;
d) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognised as attesting to their ability to complete this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of the Algarve.
e) Candidates for the master's degree must master Portuguese (the language in which the course is taught).

The recognition referred to in points b) to d) only has the effect of granting access to the cycle of studies leading to the master's degree and does not confer to its holder the equivalence or recognition of a 1st cycle of studies’ degree.

Criteria for selection of the candidates

The selection and ranking criteria for candidates are set out in the minutes of the Course coordinating committee and include, with the weighting indicated below, the following:
1. The suitability of the degree/1st cycle to the scientific area of the course (elimination);
2. Final classification of the degree (10 to 20 points);
3. Interview (0 to 20 points). This criterian is eliminatory for scores below 10;
4. Research activity (0 to 3 points);
5. Scientific publications and communications at conferences (0 to 3 points);
6. Other complementary training (0 to 3 points).

Necessary documentation

Candidates should formalise their application using the online form, duly completed and where the documents should be uploaded:
- Certificate of qualifications, with transcripts of subjects (proof of degree); in the case of foreign qualifications candidates must attach a certificate, duly authenticated by the consulate/embassy.
- Copy of ID card or Passport.
- Curriculum Vitae (with personal, academic and professional details).
- Proof of payment of the application fee of 50 euros.
