Conditions of access

Who can apply to the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Research and Translational Medicine:
a) Holders of a master's degree in the area of health sciences (namely medicine, nursing, pharmaceutical sciences, health technologies, related areas);
b) Holders of a master's or bachelor's degree who have a particularly relevant academic or scientific curriculum in the area of clinical research (research carried out on human beings, healthy or sick, focusing on improving knowledge about diseases, developing new diagnostic and treatment methodologies or medical devices), which is recognised by the scientific committee as attesting to their ability to complete this cycle of studies.

Criteria for selection of the candidates

  • 1.    Academic record (degrees obtained) - curricular assessment
    2.    Professional career and activities as a teacher/trainer already carried out: clinical activities and teaching or tutoring activities in the field of health or clinical research - curricular assessment
    3.    Scientific work: scientific articles published in indexed journals and scientific articles published in other journals (distinguishing first, second or last authors from the rest); research projects in which you have participated as a researcher; oral presentations and posters presented at national or international scientific congresses - curricular assessment
    4) A document describing your motivation, your intended topic and the practical conditions that will enable you to carry out your doctorate (This document should present the idea to be developed during your doctorate and detail the practical and logistical conditions that will ensure its feasibility. It is not necessary to present a thesis plan). Maximum 6,000 characters including spaces.

Necessary documentation

National Students: 


a) Simple photocopy of the qualification certificate(s) of the academic degree(s) obtained, indicating the respective final classification and ECTS; All academic degrees indicated in the curriculum vitae must be supported by the respective qualification certificates, which must include the respective final classification and ECTS. If the academic degree(s) was/were obtained abroad, the documents mentioned in points a), b) and h) below must be submitted International students). 
b) Curriculum Vitae; 
c) A document describing the motivation, the intended topic and the general methodology of the project, as well as the practical conditions that will make it possible to carry out the doctorate. This document should present the idea to be developed during the doctorate and detail the practical and logistical conditions that will guarantee its feasibility. It is not necessary to submit a thesis plan. Maximum 6,000 characters including spaces
d) Proof of payment of the application fee; 


International students: 


a) Documents proving access qualifications, indicating the academic degree(s) obtained and the respective classification, duly validated by the competent authority of the issuing country (recognized by a Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority or presented with the Hague Apostille by the competent authority of the State from which the document originates); Candidates with academic degrees obtained abroad must present the records of recognition of these degrees and the conversion of the respective final grades to the Portuguese classification scale (whenever the foreign degree has been awarded a final classification), issued by the Directorate-General for Higher Education or by a Portuguese public higher education institution (regime regulated by Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of 12 December). º 341/2007, of October 12) or, alternatively, present the document of recognition/equivalence of the foreign qualifications to the corresponding Portuguese qualifications, issued by a Portuguese public higher education institution (process regulated by Decree-Law no. 283/83, of June 21). 
b) Curriculum Vitae; 
c) Document describing the motivation and practical conditions for undertaking the doctorate
d) Proof of payment of the application fee; 
e) All documents in the previous paragraphs that are not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish must be translated into one of these languages (recognized/validated translation).
