Overview
The Master’s Degree in Teaching Mathematics in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education grants professional qualification for teaching Mathematics in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and in Secondary Education, in accordance with current Portuguese legislation (Decree-Law no. 79/2014 of May 14 and Decree-Law no. 9-A/2025 of February 14). The curriculum structure comprises four areas of study: Mathematics, Mathematics Didactics, Education, and Introduction to Professional Practice. The Supervised Teaching Practice (PES) takes place in basic and secondary schools that have cooperation agreements with the University of Algarve, providing students with real contact with teaching practice. The PES culminates in a research-based report, which is subject to approval in a public examination.

O Mestrado em Ensino da Matemática visa proporcionar formação geral e habilitação profissional para a docência de matemática do 3º Ciclo do Ensino Básico e do Ensino Secundário, através do desenvolvimento de competências científicas e didáticas específicas e da realização de prática pedagógica supervisionada.

Oral Exam: July 9th – Starting at 2:00 PM – Room to be announced (with individual sessions scheduled for each candidate)

 

Fellowships

Successful candidates may apply for a Santander Teaching Career Incentive Grant for the 1st curricular year, with a unit value of 750 euros.

Subsequent years: €697

Application fee: €50

Registration fee and school insurance: €175

Note: The tuition fee for this programme may be paid in 10 instalments — the first upon registration and the remaining nine in October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May, and June.
