“Smart Cities” serve as a motto for the Webinar cycle open to society

In recent decades, around the world, innovation associated with smart cities has come to be seen as a creative and assertive response to the challenges of sustainability. In this context, the University of Algarve will hold a cycle of webinars on “Smart Cities”, which will take place between March and May, open to the general public.

This cycle of webinars emphasizes the vision of a renewed role for universities - and, in particular, a hybrid academic profile - in the connection between scientific knowledge, technology and society. Multiple examples of models and objectives are presented, different proposals and specific adaptation processes, taking into account the contexts in which it operates. According to the organizing committee, "it is intended to distinguish the current Intelligent Governance that exists in the Algarve region, which already triggers greater ease in the use of public services, investments in technology and transparency in data and in the use of city resources". The objective, they refer, "is to encourage the meeting between key players, institutions and citizens to share the technical and scientific challenges and the solutions found, triggering an open discussion".

The initiative will count with the participation of about three dozen national speakers and important experts in Sustainable and Smart Cities. It is, at the same time, an example of active learning methodologies that are triggered in the postgraduate course in Sustainable Cities, taught at the Institute of Engineering of the University of Algarve.

The sessions will always take place on Saturdays, from 2 pm to 4 pm, and are already scheduled for the following dates:

The initiative, which has the support of the Centre for Research in Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being (CinTurs), is free and open to the general public, upon registration in each session, and can be done here.
