The three-year doctoral program in Psychology was inaugurated inthe 2009-10 academic year.
The first year of the degree includes the following units: Methodology and Data Analysis seminars; Specialization seminar; Project Discussion Seminars.
The Methodology and Data Analysis seminars, seek to enhance students previously acquired knowledge of research methodology and statistics.
In the Project discussion seminars, students are encouraged to acquire skills, wich will not only allow to conceive, design and conduct a research project, but also conduct scientific work autonomously.Hence, the analysis of methodologies for the elaboration of scientific reports, research projects and articles for publication, will be the main focus of this curricular unit.
In the specialization seminars, students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with investigation conducted by faculty/researchers at UALG or Portuguese or foreign other universities, in order to aid in the choosing of a research topic for his/her dissertation.
During the research progress seminar, in the second year of the degree, students work of develop the previously formulated doctoral research project, with the support of an advisor in a fundamentally tutorial process, reconcilling the development of autonomous research skills, with the necessary support of an expert in the chosen research field.
In the third year of the degree, during the Doctoral Thesis seminar, the student should become an autonomous researcher and apply the acquired skills in the previous curricular units, in order to produce original, high-quality research.
This doctoral program has been accredited by A3ES since 2012, wich speaks to the recognition of the quality of the program.
In addition, this degree was evaluated with the classification of an 8 (out of 9) in FCT's competition of doctoral programs(which took place in 2012 and 2013).
