Overview
The Master’s in Accounting and Management Control at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve provides advanced training in the areas of financial accounting, management accounting and organisational control systems, aimed at supporting economic and strategic decision-making that creates value across diverse organisational contexts. The study plan includes six core course units in the areas of Management Accounting, Financial Reporting, Management Control and Performance Assessment, Advanced Financial Analysis, Group Accounting, and Research Methodologies, ensuring a strong integration between conceptual frameworks, accounting standards and practical application. Students also select four optional course units from a diverse range of options, enabling the design of a personalised academic pathway tailored to their interests and academic and professional goals. The programme culminates in the second year with the preparation of a dissertation, project or internship.

Objectives

  • To develop the capacity for independent thinking, learning and research;
  • To equip students for strategic planning and monitoring, using advanced models of management control and performance evaluation;
  • To integrate Management Accounting, Financial Analysis and Business Analytics tools in decision support, addressing the technological, economic and sustainability challenges of contemporary society;
  • To ensure mastery of international financial reporting standards, advanced taxation and group accounting consolidation techniques;
  • To prepare students for professional roles in national and international organisations, for registration with the Order of Certified Accountants, and for progression to doctoral studies.
     

Operating Mode

Classes are on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. On Thursday, classes are on-line, starting at 6:30pm and ending at 10pm. On Friday and Saturday students are expected to attend classes at the School of Economics. On Friday classes start at 6:30 pm and end at 10pm; on Saturday classes are from 9.30 am until 1pm. Assessments may take place on other days of the week, and the corresponding schedule will be made available at the beginning of the academic year.

Application Fee: 50 Euros **

Registration Fee and School Insurance: 175 Euros

Note: The  tuition of this course can be paid in 10 installments, being the first at the time of registration and the remaining in the months of October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May and June.

* in accordance with Decree-Law No. 36/2014, changed by Decree-Law No.62/2018, of 6th August, international students are nationals of a country which is not a Member State of the European Union and are not a legally resident in Portugal for more than 2 uninterrupted years by 1st of January of the enrolment year

Merit Scholarships

For the upcoming academic year, Merit Scholarships will be made available by the Faculty for the most outstanding candidates enrolling in the program. Merit Scholarships will only cover the program tuition fee. All conditions for awarding Merit Scholarships are provided in the "Regulation for the Award of Merit Scholarships".
