Algarve University again stands out in the Shanghai Ranking in the area of Tourism

With a vast experience in research and training in the area of Tourism and Hotel Management, UAlg offers a wide range of courses, which, annually, form highly qualified professionals who perform functions in the most prestigious companies in the Tourism industry on a global scale.

At the research level, UAlg is the headquarters of the Research Centre in Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being (Cin Turs), assessed as Very Good by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and hosts a pole of the Centre for Research, Development and Innovation in Tourism (CiTUR), assessed as Good by FCT.

Currently, in this area, UAlg has a Professional Higher Technical Course (CTeSP) in Tourism Animation Management, two degrees, Tourism and Hotel Management, and two master's degrees, Hotel Management and Direction and Tourism, taught in Portuguese. In English, the Algarve Academy offers three master's degrees, Management (tourism branch), Management of Tourism Organisations and Economics of Tourism and Regional Development, and a doctorate in Tourism, the first created in Portugal in 2007.

The University of Algarve also integrates this ranking in the following areas: Oceanography, Ecology, Earth Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

According to the Rector Paulo Águas "the result in the Shanghai Ranking recognizes again the quality of the scientific production developed by the University of Algarve in these areas. The maintenance of the position in the TOP 100 is a sign of consolidation of the developed path".

It is recalled that the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is the oldest and one of the most prestigious rankings in the world and is based on indicators of scientific productivity and research quality, using different indicators collected from internationally recognised databases, such as the number of scientific articles published, the quality of scientific publications measured through the number of articles in the category of most cited in the area under evaluation, the number of citations, articles published with international collaboration (internationalisation index) and awards received.

In this edition of the ranking 54 scientific areas are evaluated, in which up to 500 higher education institutions are listed, from among more than 1800 institutions from 93 countries.
