UAlg among the world's best at attracting international students
For the second consecutive year, UAlg is included in this prestigious international ranking, placing within the 1001–1200 band among the 1,504 ranked institutions from 106 countries and territories.
The result achieved in the International Students indicator confirms UAlg’s growing ability to attract students from diverse nationalities and consolidate its position as a university that is open to the world. Its above-average performance in the Citations per Faculty and International Research Network indicators also highlights the impact of the university’s scientific output and the global reach of its research partnerships.
For the 2027 edition, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) evaluated 8,808 higher education institutions, of which only 1,504 met the eligibility criteria to be ranked—98 more than in the previous year. Portugal is once again represented by nine institutions: the University of Lisbon, University of Porto, NOVA University Lisbon, University of Coimbra, University of Aveiro, University of Minho, ISCTE, Catholic University of Portugal, and the University of Algarve. Joining the ranking for the first time this year are the University of Beira Interior and the University of Évora.
With more than two decades of history, the QS World University Rankings assesses dimensions such as academic reputation, employer reputation, research impact, faculty-to-student ratio, internationalisation, and commitment to sustainability, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The 2027 edition is based on the analysis of 16.4 million scientific publications, approximately 200 million citations, 1.5 million academic nominations, and more than 500,000 employer references.
